Vogue Machine - Hard Limited

by VOGUE MACHINE

/
  • Tape made after being ordered. Red 7" plastic reel tape. 7.5 inches per second. 4-track stereo. Box comes in plastic sleeve as well. Due to a heavy backlog of orders, it may take 6-8 weeks after release for the tape to be made and mailed out. But hopefully sooner!

Vogue Machine is Dylan Rice and Clayton Norris

This album represents Vogue Machine at the height of their first batch of songs as a band. This recording was bittersweet, a disappointment both for the band and myself. i made a big mistake on 5 of the 12 tracks during the mixing process that left the stereo mix awesome sounding but somewhat unusable. Due to the rush we were in, to mix this album in a short time, i completely forgot to check how the mixes sounded in mono. Doing this reveals any potential phase issues, which can (and did in the this case) make various instruments seem to disappear when not played using stereo speakers. The technical cause of this was a new-to-me device i used. A tape echo machine. Used it normally as i did the other 2 delay effects i was also using, which was plugging it into the effects loop to combine with the raw track. Turns out combining both clean and effected signals doesn't work with the tape echo and puts them out of phase. The common solution to this is to remix the songs again. But due to funds, schedules, and lack of energy, this has not been possible. It was either try to fix the stereo mix tracks as they were or shelve it. A few tactics were tried but we gave up and shelved the album. Now, a few years later, I decided to try again. Used an unusual method and was able to put those 5 songs back in phase enough to function. I have included those at the end of the album. They are compatible with a mono and stereo system. Not perfect as the original mixes were, minus phase problems, but very good sounding ...considering! Perhaps someday they will be remixed from scratch properly. For now though, hope you enjoy!

Recorded by Nathan Brown (Dead Media Tapes) January and August of 2016 at VOGUE MACHINE's house/rehearsal space in Denton, TX onto cassette, using a TASCAM 488 8 channel cassette multitrack tape machine.
